Why we're building this

Classroom game tools test facts. English isn't facts. It's which words go together, where the beat falls and what order things go in.

Most classroom game sites are quiz containers. They work for any subject, so they're built for none. For English teachers that means games about single words, a loud look that patronises teenagers, and libraries full of quizzes with mistakes in them.

Chunkle is built only for English. Each game turns one part of the language into the game itself: collocations, fixed phrases, phrasal verbs in Chunkle; word groups, collocations, particles in Clink.

What we care about

  • Fifteen seconds from opening the site to playing
  • One screen for the whole class; no student devices or accounts
  • Content graded by level and checked by teachers
  • Games that get the room talking, with comebacks that are earned and fair
  • A look that a 14-year-old wouldn't find babyish

Where we are

We're in beta. Chunkle is ready, and the other games are being tested in real lessons. If you try it with a class, we'd love to hear how it went.
